The 2024 Big 3 Season is underway. There are a lot of storylines and hot topics surrounding the league. From Caitlin Clark being offered five million to new talent in the Draft, the Big 3 has been one of the popular topics over the last month.
Credit is given to Hip Hop Mogul Ice Cube for his vision of establishing a new platform for professional basketball players. The Big 3 is a league for players who may not have the opportunity to sign with an NBA team but can still compete at the highest level. With that being said, we have seen former retired players alongside young prospects step into the Big 3 and shine throughout the past six seasons.
Heading into its seventh season, the Big 3 will be better than ever. The talent continues to improve and the hunt for a championship continues to get more competitive. Here are a few things to look into as we head into week one of the Big 3 Season
Can 3’s Company Emerge as Contenders?
Michael Beasley emerged as one of the top players in the Big 3 last season. For those who witnessed his college career, you know what he’s capable of bringing to the table. Despite Beasley's terrific season, the 3’s Company missed the playoffs which prevented their chances of winning a championship.
This season can be a different story. The team has learned from their ups and downs a season ago and will look to be more dominant this upcoming season. Alongside Beasley, the 3’s Company feature Captain and former NBA champion Mario Chalmers, new co-captain Reggie Evans, and a few others.
My opinion is that 3’s Company will once again be competing for a playoff spot throughout the season. The race is always tight considering there are other top-tier contenders across the league. However, 3’s Company had a terrific off-season and have improved to prepare for this season.
Triplets Redemption Season
The Triplets were one win away from specifying the team’s second championship in their history. Unfortunately, the Enemies stood in their way of making their dreams become a reality. Lisa Leslie has continued to prove that she’s one of the best coaches in the league. She has prepared her team year in and year out to keep her team alive as a title contender.
The Triplets feature a veteran-savvy squad who can compete with anyone in the league. Of course, there’s the Big 3 GOAT in Joe Johnson who continues to dominate on offense. Also, the emergence of Jeremy Pargo, Jamario Moon, and others have played a big role in helping the Triplets remain one of the top teams in the league.
The Triplets will seek redemption this Saturday as they face the Enemies in week one. Once they seek revenge, they look to dominate the season and find a way to become champions once again.
Enemies Defending their Crown
At the beginning of last season, I’m sure many fans didn’t have the Enemies winning the championship. The team was talented but weren’t in the same conversation to be the last team standing. As the underdogs, Enemies answered the call. They upset Trilogy in their first playoff game and later finished the job against Triplets for the title.
As the champions, Enemies are preparing for another title run. Jordan Crawford has proven to be a star in this league and he showed it last year as being one of the best scorers in the league. Crawford is also joined by another elite wing in Elijah Stewart and big man Isaiah Austin. Being coached by Nick Young, this is the formula that helped Enemies win a title. With that being said, they’re looking to run it back with the same core group.
The road to another title will be tough. Enemies are currently preparing for a Finals rematch against Triplets in Week 1 in Oakland. Although they should be the favorites to win, Enemies will be battle tested in this matchup. A win could potentially set the tone for how the rest of their season can go.
